Work will begin on the drainage improvements at the Central Office June 17. This will force the parking lot to Central office to close as well as a portion of the road that leads up to Central Office and Osage Trail Middle School. An update on the summer capital projects was given during Tuesday’s Fort Osage Board of Education meeting.
“Visitors will not be able to access the parking lot for about two weeks,” said Stephanie Smith, public information director for Fort Osage. “Visitors will have to park in the ninth grade center parking lot until work is completed.”
Smith said the sidewalks will be removed during this process to make way for large drums that will go underneath a new sidewalk. This will allow for better drainage on the site. In addition, work will be done along the west side of the building to further improve drainage.
The only access to the building will be on the west side. The front entrance will be closed. Visitors are asked not to come to the Central Office between 12:30 and 1 p.m. when summer school is being dismissed. If business must be conducted during that time, visitors will only be able to park at the front of Fort Osage High School and then walk around to Central office.
Parents coming to Osage Trail to pick up or drop off students are asked to use the entrance near the transportation center, which is just north of Fort Osage High School.
Other construction projects are also underway in the school district. Work has started on the front entrances at the Career and Technology Center, Fire Prairie Upper Elementary and Buckner and Elm Grove elementary schools. These changes are part of safety enhancements the district is making to a number of school facilities.
“We are remodeling the front entrances to change how people will enter the building,” Smith said. “At each of the buildings, students are being brought in at a different entrance as the work continues.”
