Christmas in the Park kicks off this week at Long-view Lake in Lee’s Summit.

The annual event is sponsored by Jackson County Parks and Recreation. It starts Wednesday and runs through Dec. 31.

The season kicks off with “Christmas in the Sky,” which includes fireworks over the lake. The gates open at 5 p.m., the show is at 6 p.m., and the fireworks start at 7 p.m. Radio station KUDL-FM puts on the show.

Christmas in the Park involves driving through the area and seeing more than 300,000 lights and 175 animated displays. Admission is free, but donations are taken. About three dozen nonprofits – including churches, Scout troops and service groups – work at the event as a fundraiser.
