As of mid-Wednesday, the Independence Animal Shelter had reached its goal of animals that were adopted out in August.

To remain competitive in the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ $100K Challenge, the Shelter had aimed to adopt out 333 animals. That goal was reached by noon Wednesday when 335 animals found homes. The shelter saw a significant amount of human foot traffic Wednesday because of cats being available for adoption at no cost.

Check out Thursday’s edition of The Examiner for more information on the September adoption specials as the shelter continues its push for more adoptions throughout September and October as part of the challenge.
