There are four middle schools that students attend in the Blue Springs School District depending on what part of the city they live.

Each of the buildings serve sixth through eighth grades. The newest of these is Sunny Vale Middle School, which opened in December 2002. The remaining buildings are Brittany Hill, Moreland Ridge and Delta Woods. Delta Woods is in the Lee’s Summit portion of the school district while Sunny Vale is in Independence.

The environment of the middle school is designed to maximize student learning. Each grade level, which are separated into wings, has a team system. Teams typically have several teachers in the core subject areas – communication arts, science, social studies and mathematics.

Students remain with the same group through the year, and curriculum is designed to meet the needs of middle school students.

After the core subject areas, students have the opportunity to choose exploratory classes. These include music, foreign language, art, industrial technology and computer technology. Students mingle between grades and teams during these exploratory classes.

Extracurricular activities such as clubs and sports are also offered at all four buildings.
