The St. Mary’s girls basketball team decided to focus on defense Tuesday, and it paid off.

JoLynn Glorioso and Shauna Bauml each scored 12 points as the Trojans shut down host Kansas City Lutheran for a 42-38 win.

“I told the girls we needed to focus on defense, and they did a better job with that,” Trojans coach Krista Daniels said. “And we hit some key free throws at the end to seal the win.”

St. Mary’s (5-6) outscored the Knights 10-8 in the third quarter to break a 24-24 halftime tie.

Jessica Kunkel scored a game-high 17 points to lead Lutheran.
