A federal grand jury has indicted 19 people, including two local residents, for their role in nearly $1 million drug trafficking and money laundering conspiracies.

Margot Charlene Davidson, 57, Independence, Jason Richardson, 31, Sugar Creek, and 17 others from Kansas City and Mexico, were charged in a two-count indictment returned on Thursday and made public by the U.S. Attorney’s Office on Friday.

The grand jury says that the co-defendants participated in a conspiracy to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, 50 grams or more of crack cocaine and 100 kilograms or more of marijuana from January 2006 to November 2010.

Also, the indictment alleges that they took part in a money-laudering conspiracy during that time by conducting financial transactions that involved the proceeds of the illegal drug-trafficking conspiracy with the intent to promote the activity.

The Independence Police Department helped investigate the case.
