Lewis W. Thomas of Lee's Summit brought suit for divorce from Caroline Thomas. They were married in Marshall County, Iowa, in April 1855. He says his wife is now in the State hospital for the insane at St. Joseph, and incurable. For several years before she was sent there, he declares there was no happiness in their home. He says his wife slept with a butcher knife or a hatchet under her pillow and that many a time he has sat up all night for fear she would kill him.
