  • Phyllis E. Christenson passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013.
    Phyllis was born May 20, 1928, the daughter of Violet and Patrick Conway, in Minneapolis Minn. She grew up in a home on the University of Minnesota campus with her brothers Jack, Walt, Kyle and her sister Patty. One of the happiest times in her life was attending Graceland College, where she made lifelong friends; she was extremely over joyed when many of her own children and grandchildren also attended there. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota, where she attained a degree in Art Education and went on to teach Art and Reading in California, Washington D.C., and Missouri. The majority of her teaching career was spent substituting at Blue Springs High School and teaching Reading at Fort Osage School District. She was united in marriage to James A. Christenson at the Stone Church on June 13, 1959. Most of all, she was a loving mother to 6 children and a beloved Granny to 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom were the light of her life.
    She is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Lysinger and husband, Tom, Parker, Colo., Kim Fletcher and husband, Keith, Odessa, Mo., and Kara Cole and husband, Chuck, Holden Mo.; two sons, Jamie Christenson and wife, Aracely, Blue Springs, Mo., and Jon Christenson, Minneapolis, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jim, and son, Jared. Other survivors include brother, Kyle Conway and wife, Anna Marie, and many other dear friends and family.
    A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 22, at 2 p.m., with family gathering from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Stone Church Community of Christ, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, Mo..  Memorial contributions are suggested to her home congregation, Odessa Community of Christ’s Building Fund, 515 S. First St., PO Box 41, Odessa MO 64076.
