  • “Mascot Mania” is part of the kickoff of the Relay for Life this Friday night at Centerpoint Medical Center.
Mack, the mascot of the Missouri Mavericks, is among the 15 or so mascots expected to be there. Others are from places such as IHOP and ChuckECheese.
This is the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Society, and a birthday theme is planned for when the Relay for Life kicks off at 6 p.m. It’s in the hospital’s parking lot closest to 39th Street.
“Our opening ceremonies are ... open to the public,” said organizer Leslie Tuttle.
Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Teams will walk throughout the 12-hour event – but Tuttle stressed that cancer survivors and everyone else is welcome to come out for the opening ceremonies.
“We’re going to have a birthday party scene,” she said.
The survivors lap is at 7 p.m., and the popular luminaria are lit at 9 p.m.
