  • There is a new person at the helm of MCC-Blue River.
Michael Banks, 51, has been named the new president of the Blue River campus. He is replacing Joseph Seabrooks, who is moving to the president position at MCC-Penn Valley.
“I am honored to be selected as the next president of the MCC-Blue River campus,” Banks said in a press release. “I am excited to join Chancellor (Mark) James, the district and campus leadership teams and the outstanding faculty, staff and students of Blue River.”
Banks is currently the vice-president of academic and student affairs at St. Charles Community College in Cottleville, Mo., a position he has had since 2003. He has a Ph.D. in American studies from Saint Louis University and a master of fine arts in design and technical theatre from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He received a bachelor of arts in theatre, also from Saint Louis University.
As vice president of academic and student affairs, Banks was responsible for interrelating the academic affairs and student services divisions. He also chaired a college-wide facilities committee that analyzed the needs on campus and served on a team that led a $25 million development project.
Prior to his current position at St. Charles Community College, he was the dean and division chair of the arts and humanities department. He also worked as an assistant professor of speech and theater at Urbana (Ohio) University and was a theater department chair and assistant professor at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Banks will assume his duties as president March 26.
