On Aug. 20, Freddy and the Doo Wops were scheduled to perform at the Sugar Creek Concert in the Park. It was judiciously moved to Onka Hall due to a storm. During the opening chords of their first song, the power went out to all of Sugar Creek and stayed out for two hours. Acoustic instruments were fetched from a band member’s home, and they performed for two hours anyway.

The saying “The show must go on!” probably doesn’t mean performing without air conditioning and to the light of only two flashlights for most performers, but it did for this band. It was impressive how they could do so well without anything to refer to other than their memories and while playing instruments they usually don’t play that can barely be seen. Thanks to the great sounds of Freddy and the Doo Wops, the power failure in Sugar Creek was enjoyable.
