  • William Edward Brinkoetter, 81, Independence, Mo., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at the VA Hospital of Kansas City.
    Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 613 S. Main St., Independence, Mo.; burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Park Lawn Chapel, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City Mo.
    Bill was born on July 24, 1931, in Warrensburg Mo., to Walter and Evelyn Brinkoetter. He was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving 6 years in the U.S. Army from 1948-1954. After leaving the military and returning home, he met his future wife, Shirley, at a dance. They dated for a while, married, and started their family. Bill got a job at Country Club Dairy making home deliveries, where he worked hard and managed to stay in the top 10 positions in the company. He eventually purchased his own truck and had his own route before retiring from the business. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don; his sister-in-law, Kay; and his nephew, Ronnie.
    He leaves behind his wife, Shirley, of 57 years; one son, Steve Brinkoetter and wife, Donna, Richmond, Mo.; two daughters, Brenda Snyder and husband, Danny, Independence Mo., and Cheryl Sofia of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren that he loved and adored.
    The family would like to thank the Hospice Team at the VA Hospital for their caring and compassion.
