Prospero’s Parkside Books, 208 Missouri 7, Blue Springs, will soon launch First Friday Openings and Salon.

Its first event will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 3.

The event will feature visual art selections by Jon Bidwell and Leah Stella Stephens; a poetry reading by Eve Brackenbury; and live music by Street Corner Choir.

First Friday Openings and Salon will be the first in an ongoing monthly arts series featuring live visual, musical and written art held at the bookstore.

“It’s our goal to shine the spotlight on the creative community that lives beyond Interstate 435,” Will Leathem, co-owner of the store, said in a press release.

“Too often when talking about the KC arts scene, not enough attention is paid to the painters, photographers, sculptors, musicians and writers that live outside the city’s core neighborhoods.”

Beth King, a co-owner, agreed.

“Blue Springs offers a wonderful setting to pursue the arts, and Prospero’s Parkside hopes to give these creative people, and the audiences that enjoy art, a home.”
