Authorities arrested a 40-year-old Blue Springs man after a brief standoff at Lake Jacomo after he allegedly shot a 43-year-old Jackson County man Monday.
Authorities arrested a 40-year-old Blue Springs man after a brief standoff at Lake Jacomo after he allegedly fatally shot shot a 43-year-old Jackson County man Monday.
At 9:30 a.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a shooting that had just happened in the 33900 block of Colbern Road. The residence is east of Lake Lotawana and north of Lone Jack in unincorporated Jackson County, according to a statement by the Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy found the shooting victim dead. He was later identified as Jerry Thompson.
Witnesses told deputies the suspect had fled the scene in a red truck with a camper shell. Then the sheriff’s office received a call from the suspect in the shooting. Telecommunications learned the suspect was parked at the north boat dock of Lake Jacomo.
Deputies responded and a sheriff’s negotiator made contact with the suspect via telephone. After a short standoff, the suspect surrendered. Deputies took him into custody without incident.
The identity of the shooter was not released Monday evening.
The preliminary investigation revealed Thompson and the alleged shooter had a prior business relationship. An exact motive in the case is under investigation.
