Blue Springs’ 2008 Annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

The annual event will take place outside City Hall, 903 W. Main St., in downtown Blue Springs.

“This is a special event that draws hundreds of children and families to downtown Blue Springs for this unique holiday experience,” Mayor Carson Ross said in a news release.

“It’s a wonderful tradition in our community, and a great way in which to celebrate the closeness and the sprit of giving that exists within our city.”

Bryan Busby, television meteorologist from KMBC Channel 9, will join Mayor Ross as Master of Ceremonies. Busby will broadcast live at the top of the 6 p.m. newscast. A holiday fireworks display will take place shortly after a countdown.

Following the tree lighting, Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by fire truck.

There will also be hot dogs, cookies, hot chocolate and candy canes provided – all donated by the two local Price Chopper stores.

This year’s concert is sponsored by the Blue Springs Business Association and the Main Street Merchant Committee. Scheduled to perform during the program are student choirs from local elementary and middle schools, an adult chorus from a local church and a local performing arts academy.
