Joyce Spears, member of the Blue Springs Board of Education

1 Why did you make the decision not to run for another term on the Board of Education?
I have served for 12 years and now want to spend more time traveling and doing things with my grandchildren. There are a lot of very talented people out there, who I think can bring some new ideas. I have, however, tremendously enjoyed my time on the board.

2 What have you enjoyed most serving on the board?
Working with the different boards and administrators. They have been easy to work with, and I am proud of what we have achieved over the years.

3 What accomplishment are you most proud of during your tenure?
The improved reading program and the implementation of all-day kindergarten. I also think all of the renovations we have done because some of those schools desperately needed organization and renovating.

4 What are you going to miss most?
The close contact with the administrations and knowing day-to-day what is going on in the schools. I am so proud of this school district because we have such wonderful teachers.

5 What piece of advice do you give to future board members?
Come in with an open mind. Don’t hesitate to voice your opinions and do a lot of listening.
