Dennis F. “Bud” Elliott, 80, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011, at KU Medical Center.

Dennis F. “Bud” Elliott, 80, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011, at KU Medical Center.

Dennis was born the ninth of ten children to Charles P. and Ella L. Elliott on June 6th, 1931, in Grain Valley, Missouri. Dennis attended twelve years in the Independence Missouri school district.  He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1949.  He continued his education at C.M.S.U. in Warrensburg, Missouri, receiving a B.S. degree. He served four years in the U.S. Navy as a Radarman during the Korean War, 1950-54.  He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Dennis was active in sports; as a player, coach and referee/umpire.  In 1963, he was the manager of the Tirey J. Ford Post #21/ Bank of Independence, American Legion baseball team that won the 1963 State Championship.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane, in 1995.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra Eads, of Independence, MO; his step-daughter, Jan Shout-Ciotti, of Lee’s Summit, MO; three step-sons, Mark Meyer of Harrisonville, MO; James Meyer of Georgia; Mitchell Meyer of Pensacola, FL; eleven grandchildren; and, five great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by one sister; Delia Thompson, of Independence, MO; and one brother, Donald “Gene” Elliott, of Springfield, MO.

In lieu of flowers, donations to any Veterans organization or Harvesters Backpack for Kids Program would be appreciated.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2011, at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 30000 E. Valor Dr. Grain Valley, MO, with a visitation prior to services at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Swan Lake Memorial Park, Grain Valley, MO.
