The first Peace Corps delegation to receive overseas assignments left the United States with President Kennedy’sspecial blessings. He told the 80 young men and women that if they do their jobs properly, “the influence may be far-reaching and will go far beyond the immediate day-to-day tasks that you may do in the months that area ahead.”
