MARSHALL, Mo. —A veteran Marshall team was too much for Grain Valley Monday, rolling to an 8-1 victory.

“They had a lot of kids back and we knew it was going to be tough,” Grain Valley coach Randy Draper said. “I was pleased with the way we played but we have to get better.”

The No. 3 doubles team of Jessica Dornes and Mariah Hernandez posted the only Grain Valley victory.

Marshall also took the junior varsity match 8-1.

BLUE VALLEY (KAN.) 8, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 1: The defending Kansas Class 5 state champions were too much for host Lee’s Summit North

Singles players Anna Welsh and Kadi Severson posted the only victories as North fell to Blue Valley (Kan.) 7-2.

“They were very solid throughout the lineup and really served us off the court, especially in doubles,” North coach Stuart Reece said.

“Christina Leeper, Welsh and Severaon played their best tennis of the season and Camryn Parnell has a nice match to fight back. A match like this against such a good opponent can only help make us better.”

North notched a 6-3 junior varsity victory.
