“More than 13,000,000 feet of lumber are thrown into waste paper baskets every year,” said Professor E.C. Haller, head of the botany department at Central High School in Kansas City. “Seventy-three million feet of lumber are used in the manufacture of pencils every year in the United States. Think how the conservation of our forests would be promoted if every person would be more careful in the use of pencils.”
