  • Former Kansas City Royals broadcaster Fred White has died, the team announced today.
    White, who spent 40 seasons in the Royals’ organization as an announcer, director of broadcast services and the Royals alumni, died early today from complications from melanoma in hospice care.
    The Royals had just announced White's retirement from the organization on Tuesday.
    White was in the Royals' broadcast booth with Denny Matthews from 1973 to 1998 and then served as the team's director of broadcast services and Royals alumni until Tuesday.
    The Royals said there are no funeral arrangements at this time.
