  • An Independence man has been charged in the shooting death of another Independence man on Monday.
Finesse I. O’Banion, 35, of Independence, faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action in a shooting that resulted in the death of Charles J. “Chuck” Dunnington, 30, of Independence.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $500,000.
Police were called about 11:20 p.m. Monday to a home in the 11300 block of East 11th Street, where they found Dunnington shot in the head on the ground in front of the house. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Police say statements from witnesses, phone records and identification of a truck that he allegedly drove the night of the shooting led them to arrest O’Banion and charge him in the shooting.
According to court documents, police say O’Banion admitted to one witness that he had shot a person in Independence and had discarded the gun near a grocery store in Raytown. Police say store surveillance cameras show O’Banion parking and leaving the vehicle.
Another witness told police she saw the truck on the street where the shooting happened about the time she heard gunshots. Another witness told police he saw two men in the truck on 11th Street at the time of the shooting.
