Flags will be flown at half-staff across the state Thursday in honor of a Missourian killed earlier this month in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Edward F. Dixon III, 37, of Joplin, died June 18 in Uruzgan Province. He served in the Air Force, and his is many awards and citations include the Bronze Star. He was assigned to the C Company, 4th Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, V Corps, Baumholder, Germany.

Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered U.S. and Missouri flags to half-staff statewide on Thursday and in Jasper County from July 5 through July 10.
