A major business magazine says Blue Springs is the best city in Missouri in which to raise children.

Blue Springs beat out runners up Lee’s Summit and Joplin in the annual rating by Business Week. The magazine cites the city’s “low cost of living, nationally-recognized schools, parks, hiking trails, and a central location.”

The magazine looks at cities of at least 45,000 residents and median incomes of $40,000 to $125,000. The complete list is at http://images.businessweek.com/ss/09/11/1117_best_places_to_raise_kids/index.htm.

The overall No. 1 for 2010 is Tinley Park, Ill., outside Chicago. The magazine names a winner and two runners up for each state. The winner in Kansas is Salina, followed by Lawrence and Olathe, and the winner in Iowa is Ames, followed by West Des Moines and Dubuque.
