The Troop Committee, acting on behalf of the National Eagle Court of Honor and the Heart of America Council, is proud to present the Eagle Scout Award to Ryan Anthony Ferro, who received his Eagle Scout Award on Aug. 16, 2009.

Ryan started his scouting career in Troop 253, and after attending for a short time, he decided to stop scouting. Then a light popped into his head and he started scouting again, joining Troop 347. Ryan has met all requirements for advancement while working with the troop, earning 39 merit badges. As he developed his leadership abilities, he served the troop in several capacities, Patrol Leader, Historian, Instructor and Assistant Quartermaster.

While participating in troop activities, Ryan has also attended H. Roe Bartle Scout Camp for four years. He is a member of the honor camping society of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, attaining Brave in June 2009.

Ryan demonstrated his leadership abilities by planning and completing his Eagle project for the Wayside Waifs Animal Shelter Cemetery, resetting bricks and building flower beds for the entrance of the cemetery. He got donations of flowers and shrubs from Farrand Farms Greenhouse and others.

He is a sophomore at Lee’s Summit West High School. He was the manager of the varsity basketball team, and plans to be manager this school year. Ryan is also active in the West Side theater group, working as stage crew building scenery and props.
