The Missouri Mavericks announced Wednesday that they had signed two-time Central Hockey League All-Star Mike Burgoyne. The Mavs also signed goaltender Alexandre to a five-game tryout. In order to make room on the roster, defenseman Shaun Arvai was waived.
“Mike is exactly what we have been looking for,” Hillman said. “Having a veteran player who can run our power play effectively will be a huge asset. … This is a big signing for our hockey club.”
Burgoyne, 28, played six games this season with the ECHL’s Victoria Salmon Kings. He spent last year in Ireland with the Belfast Giants, totaling 58 points in 71 games to lead them to the EIHL title. Vincent, 22, was originally drafted by the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks and played the last two years with the CHL’s Odessa Jackalopes, compiling a 37-14-7 record.
“Alexandre is a big goalie who has played two very good years in this league,” Hillman said. “He has a great winning percentage and is very excited to come here and compete for a job. We have been struggling to get a big save when we really need it and Alex has the ability to make the big save.”
Arvai had played 13 games for the Mavericks before being waived. He had three points – one goal and two assists and 21 penalty minutes.
