Regulation and two extra periods weren’t enough to crown a winner of the Lee’s Summit North vs. Blue Springs South soccer matchup.

The Broncos finally emerged victorious when the game was decided by penalty kicks. The Jaguars dropped to 4-5 as North improved to 7-2-1.

“We’re finally back to playing a good, whole-team game,” South coach John Grice said. “Jake Skinner (goalie) came up huge and kept us in the game.”

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS 1, OAK GROVE 0: An early goal cost the Oak Grove soccer team as it fell to Excelsior Springs 1-0 Wednesday.

Excelsior scored in the seventh minute and the Panthers could never equalize. Still, Panthers coach Ben Thomason liked how his depleted team responded.

“It was a really well played game,” he said. “We’re a little banged up, a little sick.”

PARK HIILL 2, BLUE SPRINGS 1: Blue Springs was three minutes away from defeating visiting Park Hill.

But David Zdvorak’s goal in the 77th minute  tied the score. Then two minutes in the first overtime, Ray Lee’s goal gave the Trojans the victory.

“We played outstanding,” Blue Springs coach Mark Palermo said. “The keeper (Sean Kennedy) came in and played great. The defense had a wonderful performance tonight.”

Kennedy replaced Nick Waite, who is recovering from a torn quad and will be out several weeks.

Cody Braden’s goal in the 73rd minute gave Blue Springs (5-4) a 1-0 lead.

Blue Springs prevailed 2-1 in the junior varsity match.
