To Mayor Reimal and members of the Independence City Council.

The current city pet ordinance allows for four pets per household, designating two cats and two dogs. I am asking for your vote in support of allowing for four animals without distinction.

This change will not increase the number of pets already allowed per household, nor will it encourage pet owners to acquire additional animals. It would be an unjustified assumption that owners of multiple pets are somehow irresponsible; in fact there is evidence to support otherwise.

Independence has already addressed barking dogs, dangerous animals and livestock within city limits to assure public health and neighborhood harmony. I’m asking you to treat residents of Independence with the respect they deserve on this issue.
