We U.S. citizens should be appalled and embarrassed at our rate of homicide by guns in comparison with the rest of the world. Sadly, some people’s response to the Sandy Hook murders was to immediately buy more assault-type weapons and ammunition for same.
All it took was some discussion about potential gun control. The evening news carried stories about shortages of certain types of ammunition. In most cases it was .223 caliber and 9-mm cartridges. Not very surprising since the most favored assault semi-automatic weapons are the Bushmaster .223 rifle and the Glock 9-mm pistol.
Of course the extended 30-round magazines are selling by record amounts. They can’t keep up with demand. I have hunted game all my life and was taught early on that an important part of hunting is to shoot as few times as possible. These weapons are not intended for hunting and are overkill for home protection. The Second Amendment has been distorted by the NRA. NRA should be changed to GLA – Gun Lobbyist Association.
We can do better than this.
