To the editor:
“If someone is so fearful that they are going to start using their weapons to protect their rights, it makes me very nervous that these people have weapons at all,” said Representative Henry Waxman, D-Calif., on March 9, 2008.
The Second Amendment was written and adopted for far more than just hunting and collecting firearms. It was also written to be a last resort against tyrannical government. We had just won our War of Independence against the mightiest military of a government that had become tyrannical. It was a war fought and won by citizens who formed militias and fought with their own weapons.
Now we have members of Congress, our federal government, wanting to disarm us.
Disarm law-abiding citizens because of a few psychos who shot defenseless people in “gun free” zones? Congressmen and our president want to take away or limit severely our constitutionally assured means to protect ourselves.
It was soon after Mr. Obama won his 2008 election that his sidekick, Rahm Emanuel, was quoted saying “never let a crisis go to waste.” If our leaders were sincerely concerned about the safety and well being our their citizens, they would go after the causes of the shooting sprees and not the tools used. Those same tools are used by millions of law-abiding Americans you never heard because they are safe, law-abiding, sane people.
Be wary of those promising your safety from their chairs in Washington, D.C. They cannot assure your safety, but they can try to take away your means to protect yourself, your family, property from criminals, and lastly your country from tyranny.
