The MCC-Blue River Police Academy Class 11-700 will perform an “Honor Run” to celebrate the life and career of Excelsior Springs Police Officer William McCant. McCant was a 15-year veteran of the Excelsior Springs Police Department and lost his battle with cancer on June 22, 2008.
The run will start at 4 p.m. Friday at the Excelsior Springs Middle School and will stop at Hillcrest Cemetery where a ceremony will be held to honor McCant. The run will then return to the middle school where it will conclude.
Since 2007 the MCC-Blue River Police Academy has performed these honor runs to celebrate fallen officers whether their deaths came in the line of duty or by other causes. This run allows recruits to honor the sacrifice of a fallen officer and gives them the opportunity to participate in the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood within the law enforcement community.
Private donations can be made to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
