Two people died Saturday night in a wreck on Interstate 70 that involved an Independence man.

It happened about 8:30 p.m. just east of Concordia. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a 2005 Toyota driven by Harry W. Corwell, 73, of Independence, struck a 2002 GMC in the rear. The GMC went off the road to the right, hit an embankment and a ditch, and overturned. Both people in the GMC were pronounced dead at the scene. They were the driver, Sally J. Catanese, 60, and a passenger, William R. Catanese, 63, both of Canon City, Colo.

Corwell was uninjured. Both vehicles were totalled.
