Two people were injured Saturday in a traffic accident in Bates County.
The accident occurred just after 4:20 p.m. on U.S. 71, just north of Morman Fork Creek. A 2007 Dodge Caravan, driven by Rachel C. Bristow, 66, of Independence, traveled off the left side of the roadway. Bristow overcorrected and then went off the right side of the highway, overturning, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report. The vehicle came to rest upright.
Bristow was taken to Bates County Hospital with moderate injuries. Her passenger, Brittany N. Whaley, 19, of Independence, was taken to Bates County Hospital with minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
The highway patrol is continuing to investigate and a summons is pending.
