1 What makes you a better representative for Independence in Jefferson City than your opponent?
I have deep roots in my community and connect with the people. I have now gone through the learning process in Jefferson City and ready to continue serving the people.
2 What is your position on Proposition B (the tobacco tax)?
It is agreed that we have the lowest tobacco tax in the country. A tax increase should go to the vote of the people always.
3 Teacher tenure was a hot button issue during the 2012 legislative session. What is your opinion on teacher tenure and what changes, if any, do you think should be made?
I believe the districts have an adequate process, and the state should leave it alone.
4 What do you think should and can be done to boost economic development in Missouri?
It isn’t easy to come up with a magic way of doing things, but here are some keys. You have to have patience and commitment to solve the problem. Key people in the community need to be contacted that could pull some strings to make things happen. There are state and federal grants available and the key here is to be persistent in applying for them. Studies should then be made on trends, goods, incomes, taxes and so on. Ask questions on why people go certain places and what is the attraction.
I do believe that beginning a business is hard and should have some help but not so much that they continue to have their hand out. If a business is to survive it needs to stand on its own feet.
