LIBERTY, Mo. – The Truman boys soccer team will attempt to even its  record at 1-1 in the Liberty Tournament today.

Host Liberty ruined the Truman opener and that of new coach Jared Byrne with a 2-0 victory Saturday.

“It was OK for the first game,” Byrne said. “We started off jittery and unorganized. We played a lot of defense in the first half. In the second half we were much stronger. We started getting some passes together and had most of our chances but couldn’t finish.

“Alex Villa played extremely well (in goal) for a freshman and his first varsity game. He stopped a lot of potential goals. Cam Wallace did a good job of creating chances in the second half, but we dove in too much on defense.”

Two first-half goals stood up for Liberty.

Truman meets Smithville today in another pool-play game.

Raytown South edged Liberty North 2-1 in Saturday’s other game.
