John A. “Tony” Maddox Jr., 85, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on July 29, 2008 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday, August 1, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Interment will follow at Mount Washington Cemetery in Independence, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the City Union Mission.

Tony was born on November 16, 1922 in Washington, D.C. to John W. and Frances (Birch) Maddox. He earned the rank of First Lt. in the Army and served his country during World War II in Europe. Tony was in France before the invasion and received many honorable decorations from France for his service behind enemy lines as a Cartographer. He was a member of the American Legion Post #499 and St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Tony also received the honor of becoming a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Olive “Nancy” Maddox, brother, Edmund Maddox, and sister, Louise Harnsbenger.

Tony is survived by his: Son: John & wife, Karen Maddox of Blue Springs, MO Daughter: Marie & husband, John Candiano of Blue Springs, MO Grandchildren: John & Sonya Maddox of Pevely, MO; Michael & Kara Maddox of Lincoln, NE, Amy Maddox of Tuttle, OK, Annette & Kevin Nierman of Lee’s Summit, MO, John Jr. & Angela Candiano of Lee’s Summit, MO, Christiana & Nate Vander Hamm of Olathe, KS. Great-Grandchildren: John Maddox V, Laura Maddox, Samantha Maddox, Hana Maddox, Nate Maddox, Hannah Nierman, Jack Nierman, Joe Candiano, Marissa Candiano and Alissa Vander Hamm; Sister: Frances Criswell of Hyattesville, Maryland
