Oak Grove High School graduate Shawn Boss improved on an award from last year.

Boss, a multi-event athlete for the University of Central Missouri track and field team, has earned first-team NCAA Academic All-America honors.

Boss, a junior, was honored for carrying a 4.0 grade point average in computer information systems. He was a third-team selection last year.

Boss captured third place and All-American honors in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in March with a career-high 5,076 points. At that meet, he was presented with the NCAA’s Elite 88 award, which recognizes the scholar-athlete at the championships who has the highest cumulative GPA.

He also qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon. He finished ninth with a total of 6,123 points. He ran a personal-best 15.08 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and had season-bests in the discus (115 feet), pole vault (13-9.25) and 400 meters (53.21) at the NCAA Championships.

And most recently, Boss was recognized by the MIAA as an Academic Excellence Award winner.
