JAN. 31: Light Geese Hunting Season Opens – The light geese (Blue, Snow and Ross’s geese) hunting season (conservation order) opens in Missouri and runs through April 30, 2009. There is no limit. For regulations, see the Missouri Wildlife Code online at www.mdc.mo.gov/seasons/.
JAN. 31: Winter Mammals – 1-2:30 p.m. for all ages at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Learn about Missouri mammals and how these animals are adapted to survive the winter. Call 816-228-3766 to register.
FEB. 1: Missouri’s Least Wanted – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for all ages at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Several nonnative and exotic species have arrived in Missouri. Some are more harmful than others, but they all can cause problems. Learn about which invasive species are in Missouri and what can be done to fight back. No registration required, walk-ins are welcome. Call 816-228-3766 for more information.

FEB. 7: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Lake City Range & Training Center near Blue Springs. Students must be age 11 or older. Jake Jacoby is the instructor. Pre-register by calling 816-655-6250.
FEB. 7: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Grove Community Center. Mike Mansell is the instructor. Students must be age 11 or older. Pre-register by calling 816-655-6250.
FEB. 7: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Parma Woods Shooting Range in Parkville. The Parma Woods staff will instruct. Students must be age 11 or older. Pre-register by calling 816-655-6250. Students must attend all three sessions to qualify.
FEB. 17, 18 & 19: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 6-9:30 p.m. each day at Fort Osage Vo-Tech. Al Diman is the instructor. Pre-register by calling 816-650-7183. Students must attend all three sessions to qualify. Students must be age 11 or older. FEB. 21: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Metropolitan Community College-Longview in Lee’s Summit. There is a $2 building use fee per student. Class is held in the Campus Center, Room 241. Students must be age 11 or older. Don Sears is the instructor. Pre-register by calling 816-655-6250.
FEB. 24, 25 & 26: Missouri Department of Conservation Hunter Education Class – 6-9:30 p.m. each day at Northland Career Center in Platte City. O.H. Lewis is the instructor. Pre-register by calling 816-858-5505. Students must attend all three sessions to qualify. Students must be age 11 or older.
