The holiday season didn’t get off to a festive start for the Missouri Comets as they lost 18-8 Friday night to the Syracuse Silver Knights at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena.

Cory Elenio and Savisa Ubiparapovic each had a hat trick for the Silver Knights while Lucas Rodriguez led the Comets with four points on two goals.

The two teams were tied at 6-all at halftime, but the Silver Knights ran away with the game in the second half, outscoring the comets 12-2.

Four different players scored for the Knights in the third quarter as their high pressure attack caught the Comets out of position.

The Comets attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter with Vahid Assadpour entering the game as a sixth attacker. Rodriguez scored his second goal, but Missouri would come no closer.

Rodriguez and Geison scored unassisted goals to put the Comets ahead 4-0. After Syracuse tied it, Byron Alvarez scored on a penalty kick at the 12:09 mark of the second quarter for a 6-4 lead.

Nelson Santana, though, scored on a penalty kick to tie it at halftime.

The Comets return to the Independence Events Center for just their second game this month when they play host to Wichita at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The first Media Game will be played at halftime and will feature Brett Anthony from NBC Action News, Bryan Truta from JACK FM, Nick Vasos and Sarah Clark from Fox 4 and The Examiner’s Bill Althaus.
