I truly admire the success of the Republican party. Not only has it managed a majority in the House of Representatives, it has successfully avoided its fair share of the blame for the state of the economy and likes to blame Obama. In fact, that is its total goal – to defeat Obama, not help the economy.

The Republican Party is no longer the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower or, dare I say it, Reagan. None of these former presidents would pass muster with the extreme conservative politics of the right these days. I dare even say that some of their policies would be labeled socialist or even Marxist. Where, oh where, have the moderate Republicans gone? Defeated in primaries by Tea Partiers or threatened with a primary challenge if they do not toe the line of the extreme.

The Republicans these days have repeated their message of flawed policies, hate and fear so frequently that the least informed Americans who thirst for simple answers have been convinced of the merit of Republican policies that can easily be viewed to counter the interest of the majority of Americans. Hate for unions, minorities, faiths other than Christian, intellectuals, gays and lesbians, immigrants, the poor, the jobless, the homeless, the sick and the hungry. That’s a whole lot of hate. I am not saying all Republicans are this way; it’s just the current agenda that the powers in the House and the presidential candidates seem to push.

In their alternate universe, businesses hire because of tax policies and not demand for their goods and services. The critically ill should die if they can’t afford to pay for health care. The design of your marriage must fit within their ideal. If you are not with us, you are a bad American, socialist, a communist or a Marxist anti-American. Restrictive reproductive rights, voting rights, women’s rights, equal rights, rights to unionize and most recently, the right to peaceably assemble are ideas that fall under the tyranny of the conservative sphere of hate.

Three years ago, the American people took a break from digging the grave for our nation. Two years later, the digging has resumed. I pray that there is an awakening from the fog and spell of propaganda spewed out from the Republicans and their false gods of greed, crony fake capitalism, hate, racism and fantasy economics.

May the awaking begin anew in 2013 to extricate our nation from the shackles we the people put on our nation by drinking the Kool-Aid!
