We want to thank you for running the story about the 1141st Sapper Company (“Clearing the way in Afghanistan”) in the weekend Examiner.

Our son, Steve, is a sergeant in the 1141st, and this is his third combat tour. Like his comrades, Steve tries to downplay the dangers. He tells us that things aren’t as bad as they sound. Yet, when his younger brother asked him if he encountered any roadside bombs, Steve’s answer was: “Every frigging day!”

Between firefights, rocket and mortar attacks, IEDs and self-deprivation, the members of the 1141st earn every accolade they receive. Those Houn’ Dawgs are the bravest guys we know.
