  • More than 1,700 Independence residences will soon have underground electric service lines, thanks to a federal grant.
The City Council unanimously approved an emergency ordinance Monday evening, approving nearly $1.7 million in grant funding from the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, to convert current high-risk overhead service lines to underground lines.
This is the seventh time the city has received this grant, and Independence Power & Light has already applied for the eighth grant. Check out Tuesday’s edition of The Examiner to learn more about this program.
