While the rest of the world focuses on awards such as the Grammy’s, Golden Globes and Oscars, it’s a different kind of award season in Eastern Jackson County.

This is the time of year that cities and business communities come together to honor the brightest stars in their neighborhoods. The Blue Springs and Independence chambers of commerce, last month, honored their citizens and businesses of the years during their annual banquets.

The Indepedence Council for Economic Development this week also awarded local businesses for the impact they make in the community through job creation or capital investments to their business. See the full list on page A9.

But the trophies don’t stop there. Today Grain Valley will honor its own top citizens and businesses with the Pillar of the Community awards banquet.

Next week is also the Accent on Academics week in the Blue Springs School District. An entire week set aside to recognize the academic success of students at every grade level in the district.

Thumbs up to the citizens, business, volunteers and students receiving these honors and nominations. Your achievements continue to make your communities grow and set the bar high for the rest of the citizens. Your dedication is admirable and helps make Eastern Jackson County a great place to live.

Thumbs up, also, to the organizations who continue to honor these citizens. Everyone likes to know that their hard work is appreciated, and these organizations go through a lot of work themselves to shower their award winners with the kudos they deserve.
