Mid-Continent Public Library events for December

These events are coming up in December at the Blue Springs North Branch of  Mid-Continent Public Library.

Storytimes and Activities

Some storytimes require registration, limit attendance, and may have more stringent age requirements; contact the branch for complete information. If you are planning on bringing a group, please call ahead.

Discovery Club

These enrichment classes are open to all our patrons but are designed for children 7-12. Length is generally 30 to 60 minutes and the programs include stories, guest speakers, videos, crafts, and/or other activities. Days and times vary; check with branch.

Preschool Storytime

Traditional story time for ages 3-5 years offering book related experiences including picture book reading, storytelling, music, puppets, finger plays, short videos and simple crafts. Not all branches do all things. Attending children need to be mature enough to sit by themselves. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. (2-6 years)

Family programs

Storytime With Santa and Mrs. Claus, 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 8 – Santa and Mrs. Claus are making a special trip from the North Pole to visit the libraries. Come join them as they read a holiday story, then sit on Santa's lap and tell him what you want for Christmas. Parents, don’t forget your cameras! (All ages) Registration is required. Keeping the Spirit Alive, 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10  – Step back in time 100 years and experience your four senses. First, smell and taste the fry bread that is made right before your eyes. Second, listen to the music made by a homemade flute and drum, and stories retold by a member of the Shoshoni tribe. Last but not least, see a teepee, shawls, moccasins, and a whole lot more! (Ages 7 and up) Registration is required.

Teen programs

Anime Movie Night, 6:30 p.m., Monday– Watch anime (Japanese animation) and enjoy provided goodies provided. Registration is required. Join us in us for fun and fellowship as we discuss plots, characters, and styles in various books. Call the branch (816-224-8772) to reserve your spot and check out the upcoming titles.
