  • Pearl Elizabeth (Gearhart) Mydland passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Ashton Court Rehabilitation and Care Facility in Liberty.
She was 89 years old and lived in her home in Independence, Mo., until three months ago when she became ill. She was widowed two years ago when her husband of 67 years, T.L. Mydland, passed away.
Pearl was born February 11, 1924, in Everest, Kan., to Levin S. Gearhart and Emma C. (Nuss) Gearhart. She went to elementary school and high school in Everest, where she graduated. During World War II, she worked in a munitions plant in St. Louis, Mo. She and T.L. Mydland of Horton, Kan., were married in St. Louis, Mo., on January 9, 1944. They moved to Independence, Mo., where they lived for over 50 years.
She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother to two sons, Ralph Gary Mydland and companion, Linda Barry, of Kissimmee, Fla., Lary L. Mydland and wife, Kathy, of Lathrop, Mo., and their two sons and daughters-in-law, Ryan and Shannin Mydland of Faucett, Mo., and Brent and Kim Mydland of Gibsonia, Pa.; and grandsons, Monty and Rawley Mydland of Faucett, Mo.
Pearl worked for Western Electric until her retirement. She remained active with the Telecom Pioneers until her death. They volunteered to make heart shaped pillows for St. Luke’s Hospital. She was instrumental in making 20-30 pillows a month for 20 years. Many Heart patients walked out with a pillow that she had pieced and sewn and stuffed. She was working with her dear friends making pillows when she became ill.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to wonderful neighbors and friends who shared their love of Pearl and made her life full and rich. We will all greatly miss this dear woman.
The body will be cremated and private inurnment services will be held Horton Cemetery, Horton, Kan. No date has been set for the services. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com.
