The severe thunderstorm watch for the metro area has expired. Also, the heat advisory for the metro area has been canceled.

The National Weather Service posted the severe thunderstorm watch this morning in advance of some rain, lightning and thunder that rolled throigh the area at mid-day. A 40 percent chance of thunderstorms lingers into the evening.

Clear – and cooler – weather is expected to return Friday. The forecast high is 89, but cooler days follow, with highs in the upper 70s Sunday and Monday. There are no 90s in the forecast for the next week, and the next chance of rain is next Wednesday.
