Gospel group to visit
Assembly of God
The Glory Barn Singers, a Southern gospel group from Chillicothe, Mo., will be ministering in song at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at the Blue Ridge Assembly of God, 740 Blue Ridge Blvd.

Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Blue Springs will hold vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon each day next week at the church, 3108 W. U.S. 40.
The theme is “Everywhere Fun Fair.” There will be games, crafts, snacks, music and a mission project.
The mission project is collecting items for Missouri Family Food Packs:
• Monday – canned vegetables.
• Tuesday – canned fruit.
• Wednesday –one-pound packages of pasta and large cans of pasta sauce (no glass).
• Thursday – peanut butter, Spam (canned meat), tuna.
• Friday – macaroni and cheese.
At 6 p.m. Thursday is the potluck and program, with grilled hot dogs, chips, drinks, and dessert provided. Bring a side dish. After dinner, the children share what they’ve learned through the week.
On Friday, there’s a carnival-themed party outside.

Auditions for the Independence Messiah Choir this year are July 27-29.
The annual performances of Handel’s “Messiah” are Dec. 6, 7 and 8 at Helzberg Hall at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Kansas City.
Auditions are being handled by the Kansas City Symphony Chorus.
Singers who are interested in auditioning should go to http://www.kcsymphonychorus.org/content/audition-time and fill out the audition form, indicating that they are only auditioning for the Independence Messiah Choir.

“The Gifts of Imperfection,” drawing from John 4: 28-30 and 39-42, is the topic of this Sunday’s sermon by the Rev. Penny Ellwood at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.
Services at the Blue Springs campus are at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Nursery care during worship is available for children up to age 3, and Sunday school is offered at 10:45 for children age 4 through fifth grade.

Eastgate Christian Church, 4010 S. River Blvd. in Independence, will host vacation Bible school from July 29 through Aug. 2.
Each morning from 9 a.m. until noon, children age 3 through the sixth grade will have Bible Stories, music, crafts and games. A closing program at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 will feature music learned during the week, and prize winners will be announced.

Bishop Larry Cleveland speaks on the theme “Humble Yourself” for the 9:15 and 10:15 a.m. communion services at The Groves Community of Christ congregation Sunday.
Cleveland worked in estate and gift planning, was an associate financial officer of the church’s Central Mission and traveled the United States as a field representative for estate and gift planning before retiring from Community of Christ employment in 2010.
Assisting in the services are Tom Peterson, Irvin Jones, Al Baughman, Brenda Williams, Christina Nagel and Pat and Judy Spillman. Music ministry is provided by Brenda Allen.
The Groves is at 1515 W. White Oak, Independence. All are invited to attend.
