  • Independence police are still seeking a suspect in a June 18 armed robbery of a Family Dollar store in southwest Independence.
    The suspect is described as a light-skinned African-American, Samoan or Hispanic man, 6-foo-1 to 6-2, 250 pounds with a goatee beard and brown eyes. He was wearing a red baseball cap, black zip-up hooded sweatshirt, a gray undershirt and black shorts (see attached photo).
    At about 5 p.m. June 18, he entered the Family Dollar store at 9120 E. 35th St. in Independence. He created a diversion by telling employees there was a liquid spill in a back aisle, then he pulled a handgun on a cashier and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. He fled in an unknown direction and no vehicle information is available.
