  • The Independence Square is hosting its 4th annual Hot Dog Eating Contest, benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Kansas City.
    The contest is at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Up Dog, 114 N. Liberty St.
    Those who want to try their hand at competitive eating can participate in the contest for a registration fee of $20. To register, visit www.eatupdog.com/contest.
    First place will receive $300 and second and third place winners will receive gift certificates to Independence Square restaurants.
    The Square has a lot to offer in summer family fun tonight with inflatables, concessions and a Moonlight Movie screening of “Frankenweenie.” The movie starts at 9 p.m. in the parking lot next to the Pharaoh Theatre.
    Prior to the movie, Jim Cosgrove, “Mr. Stinky Feet,” will perform as part of the Sounds of the Square Concert Series. He will perform from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Diamond Bowl, the Pharaoh Theatre, Square Pizza and Clinton’s Soda Fountain will also be open regular hours.
