  • Lee’s Summit North High School graduate McCall Christopher came up just short in her bid for the 75th Missouri Women’s Amateur Championship title.
    Christopher, on a day when scores were moslty higher, fired a final-round 80 Thursday after a pair of 73s in her first two rounds to finish third in the Missouri Women’s Golf Association-sponsored event at the par 71 Club at Old Kinderhook in Camdenton.
    Christopher, a Missouri high school state champion at North and now a golfer at Indiana State University, finished with a three-day total of 226, six strokes behind medalist Catherine Dolan of Ballwin, Mo., and five behind defending champion Ellen Port of St. Louis.
    Playing the front nine last, Christopher struggled to a 43 with four bogeys and two double bogeys on the final two holes to go with one birdie on that stretch. She had played holes 10 through 18 at 1-over 37, including two birdies.
    Christopher, with her third-place finish, earned consideration for the Missouri Fore State Team, which will be announced soon. The Fore State Team Championship is a Ryder Cup-style match play competition against Kansas, Arkansas and Oklahoma Aug. 1-2 at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club in Joplin.
    Logan Thorp, a former Blue Springs South High School standout, tied for 31st with a 287 total after shooting 94 Thursday. Her younger sister, Tara Thorp, finished 33rd at 294 after shooting 96 in the final round.
    Brooke Cusumano of St. Louis, who finished fifth at 232, won the Peg Ludlow Trophy as the low junior age player.
